Personal Work Devices Must Prioritize AI and Cybersecurity
By Deborah Taylor
Work laptops and personal devices used for work should be designed with robust and secure firmware to support the growing focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. Lenovo’s global executive director and general manager of commercial security, Nima Baiati, emphasized the critical nature of firmware and BIOS security, as unaddressed vulnerabilities can pose significant threats. Lenovo is continuously enhancing the firmware of their devices, leveraging AI and supply chain management expertise to address these challenges.
Lenovo recently opened a cybersecurity innovation center in Israel, which aims to explore new applications of AI in security. With generative AI potentially introducing new risks, organizations will require solutions to safeguard against cybercriminal attacks. Additionally, work devices need to provide increased compute power, particularly with the increasing adoption of cloud-based AI applications. Organizations are building their own cloud infrastructures to gain scale, flexibility, and security, but this can lead to higher spending.
To mitigate costs, Lenovo is focusing on improving efficiencies, such as compute power. Baiati highlighted the importance of ensuring low latency, as some AI processing will need to be performed on the device itself rather than relying solely on the cloud. According to a Lenovo report, AI, machine learning, and data analytics are among the most urgent priorities for businesses. CIOs expressed pressure to address these technologies, with cybersecurity ranking as the top priority.
In India, privacy and data management were top priorities for CIOs, while cybersecurity was a key concern for CIOs in Singapore. Lenovo Singapore’s general manager, Nigel Lee, emphasized the need for robust connectivity on personal work devices, as 75% of data is expected to be generated outside of data centers by 2025. Lee highlighted the importance of 5G-enabled laptops, which provide seamless connection to the cloud and support productivity and mobility in hybrid work environments.
Lenovo recently launched a range of 5G-enabled eSIM business laptops to meet the demands of modern work environments.
